Founded in 2005, S.C. Teng had envisioned a world-famous chocolate emporium in Malaysia. His passion began when he was a young boy in search of something which spread smiles. Upon munching on his first chocolate bar, only then he realised that chocolate was the answer he was looking for.
From that young boy’s vision, Harriston, now managed by the second generation of the Teng family, has outgrown itself and is heading towards realising the founder’s dream. Headed by two sisters, Teng Wei Tzyy as the CEO of Harriston and Queenie Teng as the Executive Director of Harriston, the company has experienced rapid growth in recent years.
With the recent launch of ruby chocolate, dubbed the world’s fourth type of chocolate after dark, milk and white chocolate, Harriston is already distributing the industry- shaking ruby chocolate, making its FIRST ever appearance in Southeast Asia.
Designed to delight the taste buds of Malaysians and cater to the ever-changing needs of adventurous millennials, Harriston has time and again been at the forefront of innovation thanks to their partnership with Barry Callebaut, a world leading chocolate manufacturer.
Harriston’s ruby chocolate range comes in TWO variants for now:
- the ruby chocolate thin strips
- ruby chocolate coconut crunch bar
Both chocolates are available exclusively at Harriston stores under the Harriston Signature line.
Not only does Harriston sell chocolates, they also encourage their customers to join their DIY workshops where they can indulge in a more authentic and informative experience when making their very own chocolates. Set in all outlets nationwide, the DIY workshops are open for people from all walks of life, the sessions are specially created for adults and children above 3 years old.
A fun introduction to the art of chocolate making, Harriston DIY Workshops are packed with discovery, hands-on experience, and of course, tasting and bringing home one’s very own handmade chocolates.
Incorporating 4 processes altogether, each session lasts for an hour and is open for the public to join every day from 9.30 am to 6.00pm for only RM35.
The DIY session:
- begins with chocolate moulding whereby one will be able to experience a fun-filled hands-on approach in the process of tempering chocolate at the right temperature, coating chocolate moulds, moulding and unmolding chocolates
- Once done, participants will then proceed to make lollipops by learning how to pour melted chocolate into the tray or use a piping bag to achieve the desired shapes. The process includes inserting sticks into chocolate mixture and removing chocolate after it has hardened
- Soon after, participants will learn chocolate painting where the process of coating biscuits is revealed by dipping into melted chocolate and decorating it with chocolate paint and sprinkles
- Ending the totality of the experience, participants will learn to mould Harris, the Orang Utan which can be brought home as a treat for themselves or even as a personalised gift for their loved ones.

Now hailed as one of the largest chocolate makers in the country, Harriston currently sells its mouth-watering products and chocolate-filled experiential workshops at Harriston Signature, their flagship store in Taman Shamelin Perkasa, Cheras and Georgetown, Penang.
Meanwhile, Harriston Boutique, an abbreviated version of the flagship stores, is located at Gohtong Jaya, Genting Highlands; MaTIC, Ampang; and Jalan Bagan Jermal, Penang.
